VW Slug Bug Ranch
Im Jahr 1967 eröffnete die Familie Crutchfields eine Tankstelle und einen Souvenirladen an der südlichen Frontage Road der I-40 in Conway, Texas. Das Geschäft verschlechterte sich jedoch im Jahr 2002, als auf der anderen Seite der I-40 ein Truckstop eröffnete. Die Crutchfields beschloss dann, auf der Südseite der Interstate eine Attraktion zu schaffen, und ließen sich von der Cadillac Ranch (in Amarillo) inspirieren, und vergruben fünf Volkswagen Käfer (VW Slug Bug Ranch) mit der Nase nach unten in die Erde. Die Besucher kamen, aber das Geschäft lief nicht besser und die Crutchfields mussten die Tankstelle schließen. Die Besucher können weiterhin die verlassenen Autos und Gebäude mit Graffiti bemalen.
In 1967, the Crutchfields opened a gas station and gift store on the south frontage road of I-40 in Conway, Texas. However, business deteriorated in 2002 when a truck stop opened on the other side of I-40. The Crutchfields then decided to create an attraction on the south side of the interstate, and taking inspiration from the Cadillac Ranch (in Amarillo) and buried five Volkswagen Beetles (VW Slug Bug Ranch) nose down in the ground. Visitors came, but business didn’t improve and the Crutchfields had to close the gas station. Visitors can still paint graffiti on the abandoned cars and buildings.
